They collect valuable blocks with pickaxes, move across the game board with boots, and use swords and bows to fend off monsters. As the game progresses, they collect increasingly powerful equipment and prepare themselves for the arduous adventure. To win the game together, the players must cross the rugged landscapes of the Nether game boards and defeat the final boss monster waiting for them at the end. Along the way, they must collect the missing portal stones, for which a multitude of blocks is needed. The players lose if they deliver these too late or if the blocks in stock run out. If a player's life points drop to zero, the team also loses.
