The Fall of Gondolin - Hardcover
The Fall of Gondolin - Hardcover
Two of the greatest powers of Middle-earth face each other in 'The Fall of Gondolin': on one side Morgoth, the embodiment of evil and on the other Ulmo, the lord of the seas, lakes and rivers under the sky. At the centre of their conflict is the hidden elven city of Gondolin. Turgon, King of Gondolin, is hated by Morgoth more than anything else. For a long time, the dark lord has been trying to find and destroy Gondolin, but in vain.Into this world comes Tuor and becomes the tool of Ulmo's plan. Guided by him, Tuor sets off on the dangerous journey to Gondolin and reaches the hidden city. There he marries Idril, Turgon's daughter. Their son is Earendil, who is destined to become the most famous sailor of the First Age. Through a vile traitor, Morgoth learns how he can launch a devastating attack against the city, with Balrogs, dragons and countless orcs. The doom takes its course. In this edition, Christopher Tolkien uses a similar depiction of the development of the story as in 'Beren and Lúthien'. For J.R.R. Tolkien, 'The Fall of Gondolin' was the first real story from this imaginary world, and like 'Beren and Lúthien' and 'The Children of Húrin' he counted it among the three Great Stories of the First Age of Middle-earth. The Fall of Gondolin was edited by Christopher Tolkien and completes the three great stories that began in 2007 with 'The Children of Húrin' and continued in 2017 with 'Beren and Lúthien'. This new volume includes numerous colour plates by the famous Tolkien artist Alan Lee.

Journey through Middle-earth - Illustrations from Bag End to Mordor
The landscapes between Bree and Gondor, between Angmar and Mordor have deeply imprinted themselves in the memory of entire generations of readers. These fantastic meadows and rivers, gorges, and tunnels, forests and mountain ranges are unique in literature and film. On his journey through Middle-earth, the famous artist John Howe not only focuses on well-known locations such as the Prancing Pony inn, the horse kingdom of Rohan, Elrond's house in Rivendell, or the dangerous Mirkwood and Helm's Deep. He also dedicates himself to the more remote places and even dares to take a look at the lands beyond the sea. The texts accompanying the color illustrations and drawings shed light on how John Howe has opened up Tolkien's world. In this magnificent illustrated book, John Howe takes us to all the known and unknown locations of 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings'. He shows their wildness, grace and abyss, while always maintaining their mysterious uniqueness. One of the most beautiful books on Tolkien's Middle-earth.
