This is how Star Wars IX was supposed to go
A brief summary of the original concept for Episode IX: Duel of the Fates by Colin Trevorrow: the First Order has completely destroyed the resistance. In search of new allies, our heroes, especially Rose and Finn, are on a secret mission on Coruscant. In the process, Finn meets former "colleagues" who, like him, have renounced the First Order and support him. Everything has changed in terms of the Force members too. Palpatine, for example, doesn't appear at all. Kylo Ren becomes a powerful supervillain who Rey cannot defeat without the help of Leia and Luke's Force spirit. BTW: Rey's surname is not Skywalker, but Solana; her parents were killed by the Knights of Ren.
